Slow Living at Home: Terrace Gardening and a 15-Minute Korean Meal
Today, I want to share two simple ways I bring calm and joy into my everyday life: a special tree that adds silver and green hues to my terrace all year round, and a quick, 15-minute Korean-style recipe that nourishes both body and mind—even on the busiest days.
Terrace Gardening: Meeting the Silverleaf Beech
Recently, I finally ordered a Silverleaf Beech online—a tree I’ve wanted for quite some time. With my schedule rarely allowing visits to a plant nursery, online ordering was a practical solution. Thanks to careful packaging, the tree arrived healthy and ready to thrive on my terrace.
Even a small terrace feels calmer and more inviting with this living element. Watching the light shift across its leaves has become a small daily ritual that slows down the pace of my day.
A quiet terrace moment, where light and leaves gently slow the day.
1. Protect the roots: Avoid disturbing the darker root sections when transplanting.
2. Use masato (gravel topping): Helps prevent water overflow and keeps maintenance clean.
3. Choose the right spot: Place where it receives filtered light to reduce stress.
With a bit of care, this tree could even double as a charming, seasonal decoration. Adding subtle lighting in winter can transform it into a living Christmas tree—beautiful, functional, and fully integrated with the natural rhythm of the terrace.
Quick 15-Minute Korean Meal: Beef and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry
After tending the terrace, it’s time to nourish the body. My favorite quick dish is a beef (sirloin or pork belly) and bean sprout stir-fry, full of Korean flavor yet simple enough to prepare in just 15 minutes. It’s perfect for busy weekdays or a slow weekend lunch on the terrace.
• 300g beef (sirloin or pork belly)
• 300g bean sprouts
• 1/2 onion, 1/3 green onion
• Seasoning: 1 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp oyster sauce
Instructions:
1. Cook the beef in a pan until nicely browned.
2. Add sliced onion and green onion with 1 tbsp sugar; stir-fry briefly.
3. Add the bean sprouts and 2 tbsp oyster sauce, tossing quickly until just
cooked.
Practical Tip: Preparing ingredients in advance helps keep the process smooth and relaxed, even on busy days.
By combining thoughtful terrace gardening with simple, mindful cooking, you create small yet meaningful rituals that restore both your space and your daily rhythm.
